TIME = TENSE

                          TENSION ABOUT TENSE

Let us forget about prepositions for the time being. My suggestion is very simple. Grab a good grammar book from somewhere and read the chapter on prepositions every day for 15 minutes. You will surely know the correct use of prepositions within 3 to 4 months. Don't try to memorize the prepositions.

Let us talk about verbs and tenses.

First of all let us begin with a very simple question: What is Tense?
Let us find out the answer. TENSE=TIME
It is very important to understand when/ at which point of time an action takes place.
Once we know that we can use the correct form of verbs to convey the meaning of a sentence. So tense means the exact time time or point of time when an action takes place. There are three broad division of time as we understand it.
Let us discuss it from another angel. In our time a) a part or portion of time has become used up. We cannot edit or correct or redo what has already been done. That part of time will never come back. It is PAST TIME=PAST TENSE. b) We are living NOW. This is our present. Present time. We have some degree of control over our NOW. This is PRESENT TIME= PRESENT TENSE c). Nobody has seen tomorrow but there is a time in our life which is yet to come. It is called FUTURE TIME=  FUTURE TENSE.

The forms of a verb changes according to these three times of happening. We all know that TIME IS TIMELESS. It has no beginning and no end. It is a continuous flow. We measure it for our own convenience. For our existence in this world is TEMPORARY. We are TEMPORAL beings, so to speak. So we want to know the exact moment of time when something is done, was done or will be done. Accordingly we have divided the tree major tenses into four sub-divisions for our own understanding. We, therefore, get 12 tenses in all. They are:

1. Present Indefinite Tense/ Simple Present Tense
2. Past Indefinite Tense/ Simple Past Tense
3. Future Indefinite Tense/ Simple Future Tense

4. Present Continuous Tense
5. Past Continuous Tense
6. Future Continuous Tense

7. Present Perfect Tense
8. Past Perfect Tense
9. Future Perfect Tense

10. Present Perfect Continuous Tense
11. Past perfect Continuous Tense
12. Future Perfect Continuous Tense
