PERFECT TENSES

                                                                 Perfect Tenses

 3. In every standard book you will surely find the following two sentences as examples of Past Perfect Tense.
a) The patient had died before the doctor came. and
b) The train had left before we reached the station.
I have serious objection to these examples. Why should the patient always die? Could not the doctor come before patient had died? At least he could try to save his life. In the second instance it is assumed that the train always runs on time. From our experience we know that more often than  not the trains in our country run late. So let us take different examples.

A. We  had completed the task before the teacher came.
B.Sutista and Debolina had reached the airport before the plane took off.

( In the case of past perfect tense we should remember two things -i.to use the past perfect tense for the action which was completed a little earlier than the other. We do not use "BE VERB" , we use the past form of ''HAVE".ii We use the past form of the verb to identify the the action we was completed a little later.

Future Perfect Tense is a little bit more complicated. Let us discuss it in the next lesson. Now start writing your sentences. Happy learning.(To be continued................................)
