Prepositions, prepositions and prepositions

           Prepositions, prepositions and prepositions........

Prepositions are grammatical words which do not change withe change of the subject. Whatever may be the person, gender or number of the subjects or objects, whatever may be the tenses or voice or narration or form of the sentences preposition remains the same. It is one of the most difficult word in the English language because there are no definite rules for using them. You have to learn to use them properly if you want to write or speak grammatically correct English. How can we learn the proper use of a preposition? I don't know for sure. T he only way is to study the use of prepositions in the writings of the native writers and remember them.

However it will be helpful to know the use of the common prepositions. ( Other than the appropriate prepositions .). There are about 150 or so common prepositions in the English language. The following prepositions are mostly used. Here is the list for you.

about, above, across, after, against, along, among, around,as, at, before, before, behind, below, beneath, beside, between, beyond, by, despite, down, except, for from,in, into, inside, like, near, of, off,on, onto, opposite, out, outside, over, past round, since, than, through, to, towards, under, underneath, until, up, upon, via, with, without, within.

The above are single word prepositions. Some pairs and groups of words are also used as single word prepositions because they give a single meaning. Study the following and remember them.

ahead of, except for, instead of , owing to, apart from, in addition to, near to , such as, as for, in front of, on account of, thanks to, as well as, in place of, in spite of, inside of , outside of etc. Actually these are PREPOSITIONAL PHRASES

There are a few adjectives that take prepositions with them to convey the appropriate meaning.
Such as= aware of, unaware of, full of, different from, due to, similar to, familiar with, wrong with, good at surprised at, responsible for good for, worried about, excited about.

You will be surprised to know that in about 90% cases we use the following 9 prepositions= WITH, TO, FROM, AT, ON, IN, OF, BY and FOR. Is it not amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
